News from SGV Headquarters

Howdy Hombres,

It's fair to say it's been a mighty long and hectic year for this little posse of 'Rambling Indie hobos'. I found myself in a haze last weekend after surfacing in a brightly lit, airtight, marble-filled mecca to fashion. This place was packed with oversized Christmas trees, polystyrene tributes to 'The Great Red Nosed Rudolf' and tinsel as far as the eye could see. The little internal voices and lack of genuine oxygen to the brain finally got the better of me and woke me from my stupor into an overwhelming realization: "SHIT!!! It's already December!!!" and "No, I don't really want to buy more crap"... Well at least until the January sales when the price is right for all indie bands and other tight asses of our population.

It's been like a time vortex this last 12 months, we have only now had a week or so to stop and get some perspective on the past year. It's felt like one very long week since we got back from Nashville in Feb. The album is now officially out and launched into stores around the country!!! Tidy work and many thanks to all of our friends at MGM and Popboomerang who have done a sterling job getting it out and into lots of stores.

We have been getting great reviews and feedback for it right across the media, including 4.5 and 5 star reviews, multiple singles of the week, feature albums, clips of the week on Rage and much more. Here's one we got from Jmag.

"Skipping Girl Vinegars debut album is so goddamned beautiful I really could punch myself…veering smoothly between rousing and ruminative, bittersweet and simply sweet its hard to find fault with any track here… The term 'crafted' is often bandied around in album review wankery, but in this case that's exactly what SGV have done with Sift the Noise. This album hasn't been 'layed down' but carefully lovingly embroidered".
4.5 Stars - J Mag

Launch Tour .
The album launch tour was a real highlight for us. We loved that we could finally come to your town with more than a single and have people singing along to some of the more obscure tracks on the album - a strange but special moment for us.

There have been lots of highlights and memories from the tour but a particular moment was walking onstage to a packed room at the Corner Hotel. After seeing so many of our favourite bands there it was 'the business' being able to launch our own album there. Thank you so much to all that came out to one of the launch shows. It meant a lot to us to have you there. We have just confirmed dates for WA, Darwin and Tas in Feb, so keep an eye out on our gigs calendar for all of you living in those parts of the country.

Postal Revolution
A huge thankyou to all of you that have sent us postal revolution letters, pressies, myspace messages, emails, pictures and vibes on the new album. It's a beautiful thing to have such a warm group of supporters building around the country and coming out to shows. We finally had a chance the other day to write back to many of the letters we have received. We are hoping to do another postal revolution soon, so make sure you have signed up your postal address on our website to receive our next exciting installment. The last one included fridge magnets and badges. Who knows what will be next!!!!

SGV On The Radio
Triple J and all of the community stations around the country have been amazing giving the new single and album title track 'Sift The Noise' a good flogging. Sift the Noise was added to high rotation on Triple J a few weeks back so you should be hearing a lot of it at the moment. I heard it on the J's today randomly driving along. After having that chorus stuck rambling around my head for close to three years it was surreal hearing it blast out of the little speakers in my manly hatchback.

SGV All Ages
We are planning some all ages shows for those of you out there under 18. We heard there was a number of you turned away at the Corner Hotel. We are sorry you missed the gig but are planning something extra special for you all in the New Year.

Feel free to write us a letter, ping us a comment here on this blog or on the myspace page. We love hearing what you're up to around your neck of the woods.

Cheers,
Mark, Sare, Chris, Amanthi and Polly. xo
